Townsend’s solitaire and Hooded Warbler, Rare to Halifax, NS
Over the past few months having had the opportunity to talk to several local birders my interests have quickly evolved from general wildlife and sea ducks to an expanded interest in birding.
Thanks to those individuals who are much more knowledgeable providing my wife and I with information on the location of a couple of birds rare to the Halifax area we had a great day pursuing photos of them. Specifically, The Townsend’s solitaire (a sleek songbird, plain medium gray colour with short bill, rather long tail and white eyering) and Hooded Warbler (a yellow warbler with a distinctive black hood with yellow face).
As one birder recently said to my wife and I, “birding is a great rabbit hole to fall into”; meaning becoming deeply engrossed in a complex, bizarre, or time-consuming topic, often leading to a journey where one thing leads to another, making it difficult to stop or escape from.
I must agree, a welcomed captivating activity to become engrossed in.
